Dear Governor Parson,
I write to express my support for clemency for Patty Prewitt, a 75 year-old grandmother who is serving a life sentence for a crime many of us believe she did not commit. Patty has now served over 38 years. I ask that you consider Patty’s exemplary record in prison over three decades, the flaws in the investigation and trial that led to her conviction, and the high cost to taxpayers of her continued incarceration. Her release is supported by a bipartisan group of over 50 Missouri legislators, religious and civic leaders, and her devoted children and grandchildren. Patty Prewitt’s clemency petition has been pending in the Governor’s office since 2010. It is time for Patty to come home to her family.
Please Governor take the responsible, merciful, and just action and grant clemency to Patty Prewitt.
Sincerely,

End Injustice, Show Mercy
Dear Governor Parson,
I’m writing this letter to ask you to please grant clemency to Patty Prewitt. She has been in prison for 34 years — the longest time for any woman in the state of Missouri. I went to college with Patty’s daughters. I watched them struggle to raise each other without their parents. I’ve followed her case for years since that time.
I believe she is innocent and is the victim of a botched investigation. From the beginning, this investigation focused on prosecuting her and only her. However, regardless of whether or not you believe this to be true, she has served 34 years and has a family that is waiting to take her in their home where she would no longer be a financial burden to the state. At home with her family, she could continue to do the positive work she has done during her incarceration.
I know you have a lot on your plate right now. We are in the middle of a pandemic. I work for a nonprofit that serves adults with developmental disabilities, and we are scrambling, just like everyone else, to continue to provide services to this vulnerable population with limited supplies. This virus will undoubtedly go through our prison population and take many lives. I would consider granting Patty’s clemency an act of mercy. Please let her shelter at home with her family.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Tena O’Hara
A Plea to Governor Parson
Freeing Patty is Fiscally Responsible
Dear Governor Parson,
At a time when you are examining ways to reduce our overcrowded prison population, cut costs and use our limited resources more effectively, you would be wise to start by granting clemency for 70-year-old Patty Prewitt.
There is no public purpose for Patty Prewitt’s continued incarceration. With the stroke of a pen, you can correct a 33-year-old injustice and reunite Prewitt with her children and grandchildren, while saving hundreds of thousands of dollars the state would spend to keep her in prison for another 18 pointless years.
Governor, please commute Prewitt’s sentence today.
Thank you for your consideration,
Maureen
